What kind of place is Kompira Mountain?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, I would like to introduce Konpira Mountain, a local hidden gem that is easily accessible from Fujieda Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Few people outside the local area may be familiar with Konpira Mountain. Even locals may not know about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite being located in the middle of Fujieda, it is slowly gaining popularity as a place where you can easily enjoy nature while taking a stroll. Well, maybe I\u2019m exaggerating a bit. It\u2019s just starting to gain a little popularity, I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elevation isn\u2019t very high, so it\u2019s more of a \u201ccasual hike\u201d or a leisurely walk than a full-fledged mountain climb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Konpira-yama is also famous for its cherry blossoms. Apparently, there are about 600 cherry trees planted across the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every spring, I look forward to enjoying the cherry blossoms along the Seto River as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s perfect for days when you think, \u201cThe weather is nice today\u201d or \u201cI want to take a walk in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several entrances to Mt. Kompira, but the easiest one to find is from the Mt. Kompira Green Park parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a restroom here, so you can take a short break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…I haven’t even started climbing yet, lol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a fairly old road with a view of the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scenery changes with the seasons, with fresh green leaves in spring and beautiful autumn leaves in fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are benches along the way, so you can take a break and enjoy a leisurely climb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I pass by local residents and people walking their dogs, and I feel that this mountain is loved by the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes about 10-20 minutes to reach the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The view from there is quite a reward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see the townscape of Fujieda, and if the weather is good, you can even catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the view from here is called \u201cShida Kukei\u201d (Nine Views of Shida).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can sit on a bench and gaze at the scenery, or spread out some snacks and rice balls and enjoy a picnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShida Kukei\u201d (Nine Views of Shida).<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u3000\u201cShitaku Nine Views\u201d refers to the scenic spots that can be seen from Mount Kompira overlooking the Shitaka Plain. It seems that many people enjoyed the spectacular view from the former Kukeiji Temple located halfway up Mount Kompira, and it has been popular since the Edo period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You won’t understand unless you actually climb it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to preserve this wonderful scenery for future generations, Fujieda City and the Shida Konpira Mountain Preservation Society installed Shida Nine Scenic Views signposts in March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I walked around the signposts, but the scenery you can see from there is a surprise to be enjoyed once you get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Konpira Shrine and a little sense of adventure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Near the summit of Mt. Kompira stands the Kompira Shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it is a small shrine, it is a historic shrine that has been cherished by the local people for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In spring, cherry blossoms bloom near the torii gate, creating a tunnel of flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has the atmosphere of a \u201cflower viewing spot in the mountains\u201d and is a healing space known only to those in the know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next to Kompira Shrine stands Kameda Inari Shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, there are small back roads and walking paths around the shrine,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

making you feel excited to explore, wondering, \u201cWhere will this road lead me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, this area is also popular with trail runners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may even see people running here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This mysterious mountain is perfect for both those who don’t get enough exercise and those who love to exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the \u201cLevee Rupture Monument\u201d at the foot of the mountain?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While climbing Mt. Kompira, be sure to stop by the \u201cEmbankment Rupture Monument.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This stone monument is located at the foot of the mountain, near the walking path along the Seto River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This monument was erected to commemorate the 1954 Fujieda Flood Disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that time, heavy rains caused by a typhoon broke the embankment of the Seto River, causing significant damage to the city of Fujieda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, the area at the foot of Mt. Kompira was flooded, submerging homes and farmland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cLevee Breach Monument\u201d features marks indicating the depth of the flooding at the time and a plaque detailing the extent of the damage, offering a glimpse into how the local community has grappled with this disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also a place where one can experience the \u201cwisdom of living in harmony with nature\u201d and the \u201chigh level of disaster prevention awareness\u201d of the people living in Fujieda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The natural healing of Mount Konpira and the historical lessons of the Dike Breach Monument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting these two sites together may allow one to gain a deeper understanding of the city of Fujieda. As a newcomer to the area, I felt this was the perfect way to learn about Fujieda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summary: Hiking in the city where you can encounter nature and history<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s surprising that there is such a spot so close to Fujieda Station, where you can enjoy nature, beautiful scenery, and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a bit of an exaggeration to call it \u201cmountain climbing,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but it’s a little more adventurous than a \u201cwalk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s the perfect distance for Mt. Kompira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And at the foot of the mountain, the quietly standing embankment breach monument tells the story of the town’s memories and the lives of its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not a tourist spot that stands out,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but for those who want to enjoy walking around Fujieda, this is a course I highly recommend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
