This time, I would like to show you how I strolled from Nihonbashi to Shinagawa-juku.<br>The distance from Nihonbashi to the Shinagawa area is about 8 km.<br>It seems like a lot of walking, but it&#8217;s not so much when you put it into numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"swell-block-fullWide pc-py-60 sp-py-40 alignfull\"><div class=\"swell-block-fullWide__inner l-article\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left is-style-default\">Shinagawa-juku<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Shinagawa-juku is the first post town on the Tokaido Highway connecting Edo and Kyoto. The above painting by Hiroshige seems to depict the arrival of a procession of feudal lords at Shinagawa-juku at sunrise. The mountain on the right looks like \u201cYatsuyama\u201d (Mt. Yatsu). It is said that the area from near the present \u201cKita-Shinagawa\u201d station to near \u201cAomono-Yokocho\u201d station was called \u201cShinagawa-juku\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Edo Castle Liberation Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishu Meeting place<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not Shinagawa-juku, but the \u201cEdo Castle Liberation: Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishu Meeting Site\u201d is located near Tamachi Station between Nihonbashi and Shinagawa-juku.<br>It is said to be the site where the famous \u201cbloodless opening of Edo\u201d meeting took place between Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishu on March 13 and 14, where the bloodless opening of Edo was decided. In the Edo period, each town had a wooden gate to guard it, and Takanawa was called \u201cOkido\u201d because it was the entrance to Edo (Tokyo). Ino Tadataka, who drew the map of Japan, used Takanawa Okido as the starting point for his accurate map. It looks like this is where a brothel called \u201cSagamiya\u201d used to be. It is said to be a beautiful shrine located on a hill after climbing a steep staircase. Please visit the shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/shinagawajinja.tokyo\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ruins of Tokaido Shinagawa-juku Honjin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you continue on past Shinakai Park, where the Shinagawa-juku is located, you will find Seiseki Park. In fact, this is the site of the Shinagawa-juku Honjin. The bridge was built between the Kita-Shinagawa and Minami-Shinagawa stations of the Tokaido Highway, and was divided into north and south sections by the Meguro River over the bridge.
