CONTACTWhen you think of autumn in Fujieda, cosmos flowers definitely come to mind.
…Huh? Never heard of it before?? LOL
Cosmos bloom from mid-October to early November. While there are several spots around town worth seeing, this time we’ll introduce the cosmos fields in the “Tono District,” which are steadily gaining popularity among locals.
Honestly, this spot is a bit tricky to find on a map, but it’s located about a 10-minute drive from Fujieda Station, nestled in a peaceful area surrounded by pastoral scenery. Beyond the rice fields where the harvest is done, a scene unfolds where pink, white, and red cosmos gently sway in the breeze—it’s so captivating you’ll want to pull over and admire it.
Plus, the famous Asahina Ryusei fireworks launch tower is nearby too~
“Community Flower Garden” cultivated by local residents
The cosmos fields in this area are actually tended by local volunteers. It started not as a city tourist spot, but from the community’s desire to “create scenery everyone can enjoy together.”
That’s precisely why it lacks the flashiness of typical tourist attractions—and that’s part of its charm. It feels nostalgic, a place perfectly suited to the soft light of an autumn afternoon. The scenery is carefully preserved daily by locals pulling weeds and straightening cosmos knocked down by typhoons.
As you walk, neighbors occasionally pass by on bicycles and call out, “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” That warmth is part of this place’s charm.
Also popular as a photo spot
Many visitors come with cameras in hand, and you’ll also see people setting up tripods to take photos. When I went, it was a beautifully clear day, and the contrast between the blue sky and the cosmos flowers was truly stunning. On windy days, the flowers sway, creating photos that feel like you’re inside a painting.
The afternoon is also recommended, when the setting sun casts its rays and the flower colors appear slightly deeper. The “golden hour” just before sunset offers soft light, making the petals appear softly translucent. Even beginners with cameras or just using smartphones can capture beautiful photos.

When is the best time to see cosmos?
The best viewing period is typically from mid-October to early November. While it may vary slightly from year to year, late October is likely the most beautiful time.
Fujieda experiences a distinct difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, which contributes to the vivid coloring of the flowers.
The cosmos fields are free to view, but there is no dedicated parking lot. Visitors use a simple parking area provided for the occasion.
(If you can walk or cycle there, that’s recommended.)

Feeling the quiet time of autumn
One of the best things about this place is that it’s not overcrowded like tourist spots. …Well, it is a bit sad that there aren’t many people, lol.
Just gazing at the cosmos flowers while surrounded by the sounds of nature—the rustling wind, the chirping insects, the birdsong—is deeply soothing.
There aren’t any benches or tables, but you’ll see people here and there sitting down at the edge of the field, leisurely sipping coffee. It feels like time itself is flowing slowly here.

Also, why not enjoy the surrounding attractions like “Gyokuro Village” and “Asahina Ryusei & Insect Museum” while you’re visiting the cosmos fields?

If you’re up for a little detour…
After enjoying the autumn cosmos fields, why not take a short detour to explore other spots around town? Changing scenery will make autumn in Fujieda feel even richer.
Rengeji Pond Park
Fujieda’s well-known place of relaxation for its citizens. And it’s my top recommended spot. Centered around Rengeji Pond, it’s a place of relaxation themed around “flowers, water, birds, and smiles.”
While you can enjoy flowers throughout the seasons—cherry blossoms and wisteria in spring, lotus flowers in summer—autumn brings an atmosphere perfect for strolling. Beyond the flower fields, there are many spots to relax, like the expansive garden paths, the reflections on the pond, the children’s playground, and the Japanese garden. Parking lots (Lot 1 and Lot 2) are available, making access easy.
Although it’s not directly connected to the cosmos fields, it’s a recommended stop if you’re thinking, “I want to extend my autumn stroll a little longer.”

Enjoy White Wisteria at Shirafuji Village
Located in the Hanashi area, this facility offers local agricultural products for sale and hands-on activities. The address is 481-1 Kitagata, Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Business hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed on Tuesdays (or the following day if Tuesday is a holiday).
It’s a place where you can buy a little snack at the shop, look at the crops, and relax. While it’s not primarily a cosmos field, the scenery during the red spider lily and firefly seasons is also lovely, making it perfect for an autumn detour.
Actually, I haven’t been there yet💦 I really need to go next time.
Another Cosmos Field in the City: Cosmos in Fujieda City’s Hongo District (Fujieda City Hongo Area)
If you venture a little further, you’ll find a spot where cosmos bloom in the fallow fields of the Hongo district. The address is “Hongo, Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture,” with the peak viewing period typically from late October to early November. Parking is available at the “Fujinose Kaikan Parking Lot.”
This spot is also recommended for those who wish to enjoy the cosmos quietly in a less crowded area.
